The 1st MOT is due on the 3rd anniversary of its registration. If your car was registered on 11/01/16, the first MOT will be due on 10/01/19.
If your car is over 3 years old, your MOT is due on the anniversary of the last MOT.
Please note, you can be fined up to £1000 for driving a vehicle without a valid MOT.
Your cars MOT lasts for 1 calendar year. The due date it runs out on is printed on the last pass certificate or alternatively you can check here with your current vehicle registration number.
You can get your cars MOT up to 1 month (minus 1 day) before it runs out and still keep the same renewal date.
You cannot drive your vehicle on the road if the MOT has run out. You can be fined up to £1000 for driving a vehicle without a valid MOT.
The only exceptions are:
- Driving to or from somewhere to be repaired
- To a pre-arranged MOT test.

The MOT test does not cover the condition of the engine, clutch or gearbox.
